Portuguese climber João Almeida owns twelve professional wins, Grand Tour stage victories and a 2025 sweep of three week-long stage races.

João Almeida gives Portuguese cycling a climber worth following at the sharp end of Grand Tours, and national recognition followed: two time trial titles and one road race championship. Twelve professional victories stand to his name, among them a Giro d'Italia stage and another in the Vuelta a España. The rider from Caldas da Rainha also took the young rider classification there.
Climbing is his trade, and the week-long stage races have proved it. In 2025 he won the Tour of the Basque Country, Tour de Romandie and Tour de Suisse in a single run, then added a Vuelta a España stage. At 28 he rides for Team Emirates XRG in the 2026 season, with time trialling giving him a second weapon in three-week races.
