How to use the SportsLife players database
The Players section brings together 508 athletes from 20 sports into one structured database. Every profile follows the same format, so a Premier League striker, a Formula 1 driver and a UFC champion can be compared side by side — the same headline facts, the same statistics blocks, the same news feed.
What every player profile contains
Each profile opens with the essentials — full name, nationality, age, current team or organisation, position or weight class and the competitions the athlete takes part in. Below that you will find a career timeline, season-by-season statistics, current rankings, honours and a live feed of SportsLife stories that mention the player. Profiles are updated after every match, race or fight.

How athletes are ranked
We never invent our own rankings. Where a sport has an official system we mirror it — the ATP and WTA computer rankings in tennis, the Official World Golf Ranking, the FIA drivers' championship standings, the ICC player rankings in cricket and the UFC's official divisional rankings. In team sports such as football, basketball and hockey, where no official individual ranking exists, players are ordered by season statistics and by how often they appear in SportsLife coverage. The Popular sort on this page follows the same logic: it reflects what our readers open most in the last 30 days.
Five ways to get more from the section
- 01 Start from the sport, not the nameEach sport page lists its athletes with filters that make sense for that discipline — positions in football, weight classes in boxing and UFC, tours in tennis and golf.
- 02 Use the sort controlsPopular shows who readers are following right now, A–Z is fastest when you know the sport, and Players count reveals where the database is deepest.
- 03 Follow a profile for updatesEvery profile has a follow button. Followed athletes appear in your daily briefing with results, injuries and transfer news.
- 04 Compare across seasonsStatistics tables can be switched between the current season, the previous one and full career totals — useful before a big transfer or a title fight.
- 05 Check the source lineEvery statistic shows where it comes from and when it was last updated, so you can tell live data from figures that are still being confirmed.
Where the data comes from
Match, race and fight results are taken from the official governing bodies and competition organisers; biographical details are checked against club, team and federation sources; injury and transfer news is confirmed by at least two independent reports before it appears on a profile. If you spot an error, every profile has a report link at the bottom of the page — corrections are usually made within 24 hours.
