Montreal and Quebec City have been confirmed as Canadian host cities for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup, with both set to stage pool-stage and round-of-16 matches in a 32-team tournament co-hosted by Canada and the United States.

Volleyball World announced the two Quebec cities on 1 October, completing a five-city hosting plan that also includes Omaha, Orlando and Anaheim. The competition is scheduled to run from 20 August to 5 September 2027. Volleyball World describes it as the first FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup to be held in North America.

The announcement gives Canada two locations in the opening and knockout stages, while California will host the tournament’s decisive rounds. It also confirms the event’s place in the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Canadian cities to stage opening phase and last 16

Montreal and Quebec City will host matches from 20 to 28 August, when the pool phase and round of 16 are due to take place. They will share those stages with Omaha, Nebraska, and Orlando, Florida.

Anaheim, California, will then host the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The arrangement means neither Canadian city will stage the final rounds, but Canada will have a substantial role in the event’s first nine days and in determining which teams reach the quarter-finals.

FIVB president Fabio Azevedo confirmed Montreal and Quebec City as hosts after Canada and the United States had been announced as co-hosts in September 2025, according to Volleyball World. The five cities will welcome 32 national teams.

Volleyball Canada’s director of indoor international events, Alan Ahac, said the event represented an opportunity to bring leading players to Montreal and Quebec City and to present the sport to audiences in Canada. Volleyball World said hosting in two Canadian cities would support the continued development and visibility of volleyball, particularly the women’s game, in Canada.

Volleyball World said the tournament would bring leading women’s players to Canadian and American courts for the first time in this World Cup’s North American history. That makes the split hosting model significant beyond the tournament schedule: two Canadian cities will be involved while the competition is positioning women’s volleyball prominently across the continent.

Olympic places add competitive stakes

The 2027 World Cup will carry consequences beyond the trophy. Under the revised format outlined by Volleyball World, the three highest-ranked national teams at the tournament that have not already qualified for Los Angeles 2028 will receive Olympic berths.

Canada have already secured their place at the Los Angeles Games after winning the NORCECA continental qualification tournament. As a result, the hosts will not be pursuing one of the World Cup’s available Olympic places, but will have the chance to play a major international tournament at home on the route to 2028.

Emily Maglio, identified in the announcement as Canada’s 2026 team captain, said playing a World Cup in Canada would be particularly meaningful for players who largely live and compete professionally abroad. She pointed to the atmosphere at Volleyball Nations League action in Quebec City, where she said more than 10,000 Canadian supporters attended, as an indication of the value of playing before home crowds.

For other national teams that remain outside the Olympic field, the format gives the pool matches and knockout rounds an added layer of importance. A strong World Cup placing could earn one of the three Olympic berths available through this competition, rather than simply progress towards the Anaheim finals.

The host-city confirmation therefore clarifies both the geographical shape and sporting purpose of the 2027 event: Montreal and Quebec City will welcome the early and last-16 action, while Anaheim will host the rounds that decide the champion, and the tournament will also offer three Olympic berths to the highest-ranked teams not already qualified for LA 2028.
