Megabox Ondulati del Savio Vallefoglia beat Savino Del Bene Scandicci 3-2 in Italy’s Serie A1 on 10 October, holding off a two-set comeback before taking the deciding set 15-13. Vallefoglia won 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 15-13 at the Vitrifrigo Arena in Pesaro, with Alessia Bolzonetti named MVP after scoring 27 points.

The result was built on Vallefoglia’s ability to regain control after Scandicci had wiped out the home side’s early advantage. The Lega Volley Femminile match report said the hosts had taken the first two sets in tight finishes, then endured a more authoritative response from the visitors in the third and fourth. In the decider, Vallefoglia moved from 7-7 to an 11-9 lead and eventually closed the match through Bolzonetti.

Second-set recovery gave Vallefoglia a platform

The second set was the clearest turning point before the tie-break. Scandicci led 20-15, according to the Lega Volley Femminile match report, but Vallefoglia recovered through blocks from Gray and Bolzonetti, an infringement by Scandicci’s Bosetti and further attacking points. The hosts turned the deficit into a 25-23 set win.

That sequence gave Vallefoglia a two-set lead, although it did not settle the contest. Scandicci responded in the third set, where Kiera Van Ryk helped them establish a 19-16 advantage before Skinner completed a 25-20 finish. The visitors then carried that momentum into the fourth, taking it 25-19 to force a fifth set.

The primary report recorded Van Ryk on 24 points and Skinner on 17 for Scandicci. Bosetti added 15, while Vallefoglia received major scoring support from Erblira Bici, who finished with 21. The figures underline how closely the contest was shared across the two attacks: Bolzonetti and Bici combined for 48 of Vallefoglia’s points, while Van Ryk and Skinner supplied 41 for Scandicci.

Bolzonetti decides the final exchanges

The tie-break remained close throughout. Scandicci opened a 6-4 lead with a block on Bici, but Vallefoglia drew level at 7-7 after a Van Ryk error. Bici then put the hosts ahead, and Giovannini extended the margin to 11-9.

That 11-9 position proved significant because it gave Vallefoglia a narrow margin to defend in a set decided by two points. The Lega Volley Femminile match report said Scandicci stayed in contention through Van Ryk, but Vallefoglia retained its mini-break before Kochurina created match point at 14-12. Skinner then prevented the first opportunity from ending the contest, meaning Vallefoglia still had to complete the job in the final rally rather than relying on the earlier swing.

Scandicci stayed within range, but Vallefoglia reached match point at 14-12 when Kochurina found a block. Skinner kept the visitors alive, before Bolzonetti completed the 15-13 win. Volleyball.it reported that Bolzonetti scored five points in the tie-break, a contribution that matched her MVP award and illustrated her influence when the match was most finely balanced.

The Lega Volley Femminile match report said Bolzonetti regarded the performance as one based on aggression in the opening two sets and the team’s refusal to drop away after Scandicci improved. That assessment fits the match chronology: the hosts first recovered from a five-point second-set deficit, then had to respond again after surrendering their overall lead.

The match lasted 135 minutes and attracted 1,403 spectators, according to the official report. Its five sets were all competitive in different ways, but the narrowest margins came at the points that determined the result: Vallefoglia won the second set by two points after trailing heavily, then the fifth by two after Scandicci had levelled the match.

For Scandicci, WorldofVolley reported that the result was a second consecutive defeat in a tie-break and left the side with two points from its opening two league matches. That makes the loss more than a missed chance to complete a comeback: Scandicci showed the resilience to overturn a 2-0 deficit, but again did not convert the decisive set. Vallefoglia, meanwhile, demonstrated that its opening-set momentum could survive a major shift in the match.
