Peter Burling competes in the 49er, a sailing class where speed comes from reading wind shifts, balancing the boat through manoeuvres and making quick trim adjustments. The work is physical and tactical at once: crews shift weight, handle lines and react to pressure on the water. Success depends on smooth boat handling, clear communication and staying composed when conditions change. Every leg asks for small decisions that add up over a race.

Burling represents New Zealand. His teams include Team New Zealand and the New Zealand SailGP Team, the latter from 2020. He is 35 today and holds the New Zealand Order of Merit. His racing calendar continues to span class racing and professional team competition, while his national representation stays with New Zealand.
