AustonMatthews
Auston Matthews: American centre for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the United States, with NHL career totals and two named trophies.
Matthews explained
Auston Matthews holds the centre position on two teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL and the United States national team in international hockey. He is 28, and his trophy list already includes a Calder Memorial Trophy and, from 2024, a Maurice Richard Trophy, both earned in the league where he plays his club hockey. For the American game, that is the asset: a centre working at the top of the club sport.
Matthews is a centre, and his NHL regular season totals with the Maple Leafs read 689 games, 428 goals and 780 points. Before Toronto there was a single year with the ZSC Lions in Switzerland. The current campaign keeps him in the same role, and that is where his standing in the NHL rests: a centre with a goal-scorer's output behind him.
