England Futsal have opened applications for the men’s under-19 national team head coach role as the programme begins preparing for the 2027 UEFA Futsal Euro qualifiers. The appointment is scheduled for 9 October, less than four months before the preliminary round begins.
The application window opened on 18 September and closes on 2 October. Candidates selected for the next stage are due to be informed on 5 October, with online interviews scheduled for 7 October. That timetable leaves a short transition from recruitment to competitive planning.

The qualifying draw takes place before the planned appointment. The incoming coach will therefore inherit the route rather than shape it and will need to move quickly from assessing the player pool to preparing for the January window if England enter at the preliminary stage.
The final tournament is scheduled for the Jekpe-Jek Hall in Astana, Kazakhstan. Reaching it would require England to negotiate the qualifying structure first, with the main round following in late March and early April.
England rebuild after the 2025 campaign
The under-19 side’s last competitive action came in March 2025, when England travelled to Hungary for the main round of qualifying. Defeats against Spain and Hungary were followed by a 3-3 draw with Finland. Comrie Smith scored twice in that draw and Tyler Cook added the other England goal.
That sequence supplies the clearest recent benchmark for the new coach. England finished the group with a point against Finland but did not progress after the earlier defeats. The next cycle begins with a different development structure behind it.
A wider age-group pathway
England Futsal continued the under-19 performance programme during the 2025-26 season and introduced an under-17 performance group. The stated purpose is to create a more sustainable route towards the senior national teams rather than relying on a single age group in isolation.
The under-19 programme has already preceded senior debuts for Jamie Brooker, Tom Uniatowicz, Tyler Cook and Jed Devine. That gives the vacancy two connected responsibilities: preparing a team for UEFA competition and helping players move through the national structure.
Requirements point to a competition-led appointment
Applicants must hold a UEFA B coaching award and current first-aid and safeguarding qualifications. England Futsal are also asking for extensive experience of leading high-performing teams in competition and a detailed understanding of the domestic league and available under-19 player pool.
The successful candidate will report to the National Teams Performance Manager. Taken together, the criteria emphasise immediate competition management and knowledge of English futsal, while the under-17 group means the role also sits within a longer pathway.
The appointment alone will not determine England’s qualifying prospects. It will establish who makes the first selection decisions of the new cycle and how quickly the programme can turn its expanded pathway into a team ready for European opposition.
The dates also create a clear first test for the recruitment process. Applications close on the same day as the qualifying draw, interviews follow five days later and the chosen coach is due to be confirmed two days after that. England will then have the remainder of October, November and December before the January preliminary window, if that is where their campaign begins.
