Ben Bartram has won the Sardinia Open singles title for his first WC250 triumph, beating world No. 12 Casey Ratzlaff 6-4, 6-1 in the final.
The 21-year-old British wheelchair tennis player also collected the doubles title with Maarten Ter Hofte, completing a two-title week at the event. The LTA said the singles success was the biggest title of Bartram’s career to date.
Before Sardinia, Bartram’s biggest titles had come at ITF 3 Series level, where he had won four trophies, according to the LTA. The victory over Ratzlaff therefore brought his first singles title at the higher WC250 tier.
Bartram gives up only three games in opening rounds
Bartram progressed through the early part of the Sardinia Open draw having dropped only three games across his first two matches, the LTA reported. He then beat Chile’s Alexander Cataldo 6-4, 6-3 to reach the championship match.
That set up a meeting with Ratzlaff, ranked 12th in the world in the LTA’s report. Bartram won the opening set 6-4 before taking the second 6-1 to secure the singles trophy.
The victory gave Bartram four wins from five meetings with Ratzlaff. Although head-to-head records do not determine future results, that sequence underlines that the Brit has repeatedly found a way past an opponent positioned among the world’s top 12.

The week followed Great Britain’s men’s title at the World Team Cup, where Bartram had contributed a singles win against Korea’s Ji-Hwan Lee, according to his LTA player profile. His Sardinia singles success was a separate individual result immediately after that team competition.
Doubles crown follows final withdrawal
Bartram and Dutch partner Ter Hofte were due to contest the doubles final against Cataldo and Brazil’s Daniel Rodrigues. However, the second seeds withdrew before the match, handing the title to Bartram and Ter Hofte.
The doubles outcome means Bartram left Sardinia with both available trophies in which he was involved. The singles title came through a completed final against Ratzlaff, while the doubles crown was awarded after the opposing pair’s withdrawal.
The Italian tennis federation identified Bartram as the fourth seed and Ratzlaff as the top seed in the men’s singles draw. Their rankings in the event made the straight-sets final a substantial result, while the 6-4 first set shows that the opening part was closer than the 6-1 second set.

Bartram’s LTA profile also records a wheelchair WC500 semi-final appearance in Rome in 2026, where he lost 6-4, 7-6(3) to Martín de la Puente. That result showed he had progressed beyond the lower-tier events before his first WC250 title arrived in Sardinia.
Earlier in the season, Bartram reached the wheelchair WC500 singles final at Eastbourne. He lost that British final 6-0, 6-3 to Gordon Reid, the LTA reported. The later Sardinia win therefore added a completed singles title to a 2026 season that had already included a final at a higher-tier event.
The LTA says Bartram first tried wheelchair tennis at the age of 11 and joined a Great Britain junior World Team Cup side at 12. It named him the ITF Junior Wheelchair Tennis Player of the Year for 2022. Those milestones offer longer-term context for the 21-year-old’s latest senior success without turning this result into a prediction about future tournaments.
