Osula scored immediately after half-time
Jacob Murphy delivered the cross for Osula to open the scoring in the 47th minute. Newcastle thought they had another goal five minutes later, but VAR ruled Joe Willock offside and the score remained 1-0.

The disallowed goal did not stop Newcastle’s next attack. In the 58th minute Amar Dedic found Barnes, who finished to double the lead. The visitors had scored with both of their shots on target.
Palace created chances despite the score
Crystal Palace finished with 17 attempts to Newcastle’s 10 and put four shots on target compared with the visitors’ two. The match was therefore more competitive than the 2-0 score might suggest.
Goalkeeper Antonin Hornicek saved from Adam Wharton in the 63rd minute and from Dario Osorio in the 71st. Those stops preserved Newcastle’s advantage when Palace were applying their strongest pressure.
Experience remained in Newcastle’s defence
Newcastle made changes to the attacking and defensive line-ups, but the defence did not become less experienced. Fabian Schar and Dan Burn replaced Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman, giving the visitors senior players in the central positions.
The victory moved Newcastle to eighth place with 11 points as of 26 October 2026. Palace can point to their shot count, but Newcastle combined two efficient finishes with important saves to win without conceding a goal. The statistics also explain the unusual shape of the result: Palace produced more attempts, while Newcastle converted every shot that reached the target. The disallowed Willock goal could have made the margin larger, but VAR correctly kept it at two.
