The United States scored in the 56th minute

The hosts started strongly and made goalkeeper Giles Moore work, but England gradually brought the match under control. John Sullivan then gave the United States the lead in the 56th minute.

A CP football match has 60 minutes of regulation time. England therefore had only a short period to respond before the final moved to two extra periods of ten minutes each.

Head coach Jack Rutter said Moore had kept England in the match when the hosts created their best chances. That contribution gave the outfield players time to settle and build attacks instead of chasing the game from an earlier deficit.

Dewhirst sent the final into extra time

Dewhirst equalised in stoppage time. Substitute David Porcher scored the winner in extra time.

The final was played in Fayetteville, Georgia, on 24 October 2026. David Porcher had entered in the 57th minute for Matty Crossen. In the 64th minute he reacted after Dewhirst’s shot was saved and scored the winning goal from the rebound.

England did not need a long passing move for the winner. Dewhirst forced the goalkeeper to make a save, Porcher continued his run and reached the loose ball first. The action rewarded both the initial shot and the substitute’s awareness.

The Para Lions celebrated their first IFCPF Men’s World Cup title on 24 October 2026.

England completed their first World Cup title

Head coach Jack Rutter represented the Para Lions as a player from 2013 to 2018 before taking charge in January 2026. His squad combined experienced players with younger arrivals during the tournament.

Rutter described the title as the result of a team journey that began years before this tournament. Matty Crossen, Porcher, Matty Robinson, Ethan Day, Cailen Beckford and Moore were among the experienced players who helped the younger members of the squad.

England survived the United States’ strongest period, did not panic after conceding and still had enough structure to create two late goals. The 2-1 victory delivered the country’s first IFCPF Men’s World Cup title.
