Bradford and Peterborough return to this round after long waits

Bradford have reached the fourth round for the first time since their run to the 2012/13 final. Peterborough last appeared in this round in 2009/10 and have already scored nine goals in this season’s competition.

Bradford have won both of their previous League Cup meetings with Peterborough, including a 3-1 victory in September 2015.

Dowman enters the round with an individual award

Fleetwood have never reached the fourth round before and will face Arsenal for the first time in a competitive match. They have also kept a clean sheet in each of their three Carabao Cup matches this season.

Max Dowman scored twice as Arsenal won 4-2 at Ipswich on 15 September. The EFL named him Carabao Cup Player of Round Three on 12 October.

Dowman was 16 years and 258 days old on the night of the match. Fleetwood must manage his direct running without leaving space for Arsenal’s more experienced forwards.

Liverpool and Chelsea can complete a full sequence of rounds

Liverpool host Chelsea at 20:00 GMT on 28 October. After the match, Liverpool and Chelsea will have met in every round from the second round to the final.

The clubs have already met in the second round, third round, quarter-final, semi-final and final. Wednesday’s game adds the fourth round to that sequence.

Everton against Newcastle closes the programme on 29 October. The eight matches give lower-division clubs a chance to extend rare runs while Premier League teams balance rotation with an immediate risk of elimination.
