Konsa scored his first Arsenal goal from an early corner

Martin Odegaard delivered a corner in the seventh minute and Gabriel headed towards goal. Jordan Pickford pushed the ball on to the crossbar, but Konsa reached the rebound and scored his first goal for Arsenal. It also ended the club’s run of 13 league matches without a set-piece goal.

Everton threatened through James Garner in the 11th minute and Tyrique George six minutes later. Noni Madueke then created two openings between the 28th and 30th minutes. Arsenal controlled more of the ball, but Everton still found space when the home side lost possession.

Raya stopped Barry before Gabriel doubled the lead

In the 44th minute Ben White headed the ball backwards without enough control. Thierno Barry reached it and shot with his foot, but David Raya made the save. Bukayo Saka was unavailable through injury, so Arsenal relied on different routes rather than their usual right-sided combinations.

Gabriel suffered a knock in the 55th minute but remained on the pitch. In his 200th Premier League match, White supplied a cross in the 68th minute and Gabriel headed in. It was the defender’s first open-play Premier League goal, rather than another finish from a dead-ball delivery.

Arsenal’s control produced a clear statistical advantage

Arsenal had 58 per cent possession, won the shot count 20-8 and led 4-3 for efforts on target. The expected-goals total was 1.77 to 0.48. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missed Everton’s final notable chance, so the visitors could not create the goal needed for a late contest.

The win took Arsenal level with City and maintained the pressure at the top. Everton have now gone 14 away league matches without beating Arsenal. Mikel Arteta highlighted the patience shown after the first goal, while the Everton response focused on the failure to convert the few clear openings that appeared before Gabriel’s header.
