Nicolas Batum announced his retirement from professional basketball on 21 September 2026 at the age of 37, ending a career that included 18 NBA seasons. In a video announcing the decision, the French forward reflected on his years in the league and with the national team, and said it was time to return home.
The announcement followed a May 2025 interview in which Batum had said the 2025/26 season would probably be his last. It brings together the two major strands of his career: a long NBA spell across four franchises and an international record that included two Olympic silver medals with France.
From Le Mans to an 18-season NBA career
Batum played professionally for Le Mans for two years before entering the NBA in 2008 as the 25th overall draft pick.
